As Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) commence nationwide voter’s registration /revalidation exercise today, Monday June 28, the Eze Ndigbo Ghana and the Assistant Publicity Secretary, Association of Ndieze Ndigbo in Diaspora, HRM Eze Chukwudi Ihenetu has joined other pan Igbo sociocultural groups to call on Ndigbo to fully participate in the exercise.
In a statement, HRM Ihenetu call on the Federal Government to also ensure that Nigerians in the Diaspora partakes in the voters registration /validation exercise.
In his words, HRM Ihenetu said: “Your vote is your power and your voters card would enable you use this power effectively to produce president of Igbo Origin in 2023. “Your vote will determine who would rule Nigeria irrespective of the fact that election in the country is often manipulated. irrespective of the fact that election result is often determined by the cabals. But we can not relent. we have to get our voters card.
“I also urge the Federal Government to make it possible in these 2023 for Nigerians in the Diaspora to cast their votes abroad through the foreign missions and embassies.”
According to INEC, the exercise is aimed at increasing the number of voters across the country and to discourage voter apathy.
INEC further said guidelines issued by INEC will enable eligible Nigerians that have clocked 18 years, or have never been registered to vote or those who have experienced any difficulty during accreditation in previous elections can register to vote.
On the chance of South East producing president of Igbo Origin, the royal father who has won many awards of excellence at home and abroad as peace ambassador said 2003 favour Ndigbo.
“When you look at political permutations since second republic till date, you will notice that Ndigbo has been pushed to the background in the area of politics in Nigeria. It was either they are occupying the position of vice president, Senate President, or speaker of the House of Reps. The position of president has completely eluded the region.
“Although many people have blamed this ugly development on marginalisation, others have also traced the root cause to apathy on the side of Ndigbo when it comes to issue of active participation as research clearly shows that despite Igbo geo-political spread as shown in their presence in all the nooks and corners of the federation, South east remain the region with least polling units and people with least voters card”
To correct this anomalies and set South east on the part of producing the next president, HRM Ihenetu appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission to allocate more polling units to states in the region to balance up with that of geopolitical zones.
In the same breathe, the royal father also urge Ndigbo to eschew apathy by going out in large number to participate in the voters registration/revalidation exercise which begins today, Monday June 28.
