…Calls for good governance to cushion economic hardship
The Eze Ndigbo Ghana and Assistant Publicity Secretary Ndieze Ndigbo in the Diaspora, HRM Eze Dr Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu has joined other well meaning Nigerians to felicitates with Nigerians atvhome and the Diaspora as the country celebrates its 63 years of nationhood.
In a statement signed from his revered Obiukwu Obieziokwu palace in Ghana, the Umuduruoha Amigbo Nwagele Imo state-born Royal Father, Eze Dr Ihenetu, a Global Peace Ambassador said Nigerian leaders must work hard to entrench good governance so as to reduce the hardship most Nigerians are facing today.
On whether Nigeria has met the dream of the founding fathers, the Royal Father, who recently celebrated the New Yam festival in Ghana, which attracted kings and queen from across Africa, said, though present and past leaders had made efforts to build a strong and united country, Nigeria was yet to attain the lofty goals of the founding fathers which centers on making Nigeria most economic viable nation on earth .
“Today, the country still lacks true federalism as most of the ethnic groups still complain of marginalisation and lack of sense of belonging in contributing their quota to the task of nation building.
“Also, problems like insecurity have continued to ravage almost every part of the country. As bandits kill and maime in the North, unknown gunmen and armed robbers hold sway in the South East, while ritual killers and kidnappers hold the South west in the jugular.
“Again despite abundant crude oil, the country has not been able to meet its energy need as it depended heavily on importation of petroleum products. With instability in foreign currency, trillions of Naira are paid for subsidy.
Epileptic supply of electricity has also worsened the plight of industries as most of them could no longer cope with the high cost of diesel and fold up, this throwing Nigerians into tje Labour market:
HRM Dr Ihenetu further said the harsh economic conditions forced many Nigerians to flee abroad in search of the golden fleece. “It pain me to see our children in foreign land taken to prostitution yo eek out living, all because they could not find something tangible to do in Nigeria.”
On the way forward, HRM Eze Dr Ihenetu calls on political leaders and leaders of thought to evolve a genuine national development policy where all the teething socio-economic and sociopolitical problems facing the nation would be addressed.
“Also, the government at all levels from local, state to the Federal should look into salary and wages of workers with the view of making it regular. It is not proper for workers to be owed long months of salary arrears as it impoverished them and also leads to a lack of productivity and corruption in the civil service.
“Equally, the federal government should tackle the three prong problems of insecurity, unstable power, and unemployment. These measures will not only make life easy for Nigerians, but it will also pave the way for foreign investors to return, thus laying a solid road for economic recovery,”HRM Ihenetu concludes.
