A truck driver has been confirmed dead while five houses were gutted by a fire that exploded at Katango axis in the metropolitan area of Kano State.

The fire, which began at about 10.00 am on Monday, lasted for two and half hours before it was put out

During outbreak, a billow of thick black smokes rose and veiled the sky, spreading to surrounding residential buildings and resulting in the destruction of five houses.

Witnesses said that the explosion erupted from an illegal refinery operated in the said area by some black oil dealers.

“No one can tell for now what exactly happened. The trailer carrying drums of the used black oil was gutted by the fire in which the driver was trapped and burned beyond recognition” they echoed.

Saminu Yusuf Abdullahi, the Public Relations Officer of the State Fire Service confirmed the dead of one person.

He told Daily Sun that the outbreak was as a result of an explosion of a rubber of black oil tank as it was being removed from the open truck.

He, however, added that his officers had since put out the fire and normal activities had resumed in the area.
