Experts say aviation key to S’ East development

$450 million foreign airlines’ trapped funds threaten Nigeria’s aviation industry

Experts in the aviation industry have enjoined South East state governments and residents of the region to explore the limitless opportunities in the sector. They also said that for the zone to experience accelerated development, Enugu, being the capital of the region, must become a hub for aviation activities in Nigeria.

They made the declaration during the, “Aviation Career Meet” held at the Coal City University Enugu.

The speakers said that the region needed to optimise the use of its airspace to ensure speedy movement of goods and services. The event was organised by Skyville Integrated Solutions in collaboration with Coal City University and with support from Ethiopian Airline.

Chief Executive Officer of Skyville, Wilson Ugwu, in an address said the collaboration with stakeholders was to properly align with International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) objective to cultivate more than 50,000 African aviation professionals in the next two decades.

The Vice Chancellor of Coal City University, Prof Afam Icha-Ituma, announced that the school had concluded arrangement to start aviation management and commercial pilot training programmes, stating that it was prepared to fill the knowledge gap in the industry.

Former Managing Director/CEO, Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Nnamdi Udo, opined that anyone could find an opening in the aviation sector.
