Seasoned tech professional and expert in cloud computing, Toyin Ifesanya has called on tech stakeholders to prioritize diversity and inclusion initiatives to drive innovation and success in the industry.

Disclosing this in a press briefing recently, she underscored the need for a more inclusive and diverse tech industry, emphasizing that it is crucial for driving innovation, creativity and growth in the industry.

“The tech industry’s future success depends on its ability to attract, retain, and nurture diverse talent,” she stated. “Fostering a culture of inclusion is essential to accessing the full potential of our workforce and creating innovative solutions that cater to a broader range of users.”

Ifesanya who also the Chief Executive Officer of Makintouch Information Technology Ltd, noted that the lack of diversity and inclusion in the tech industry can have far-reaching consequences, including a lack of representation, unequal opportunities, and a narrow perspective on problem-solving.

“The tech industry has a responsibility to ensure that everyone has an equal opportunity to participate, contribute, and benefit from the digital economy,” she emphasized. “Prioritizing diversity and inclusion is key to creating a more vibrant, innovative, and equitable tech ecosystem that benefits everyone.”

To achieve this, Ifesanya recommended that tech stakeholders take concrete steps to promote diversity and inclusion, such as implementing diversity and inclusion policies, providing training and education programs, and creating opportunities for underrepresented groups to participate in the tech industry.

She stressed the need for mentorship programs, internships, and scholarships to support underrepresented groups in the tech industry.

Ifesanya called on tech stakeholders to hold themselves accountable for promoting diversity and inclusion.

“Tracking our progress, setting measurable goals, and holding ourselves accountable are crucial steps in creating a more inclusive and diverse tech industry,” she said.

Ifesanya also underscored the need for greater representation of women and underrepresented groups in tech leadership positions.

“Having diverse leaders can help drive diversity and inclusion initiatives and create a more inclusive company culture,” she said.
