From John Adams, Minna
Barely 48 hours after defecting from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Niger State, former Commissioner for Information, Culture, and Tourism, Jonathan Vatsa has received a dual appointment to the party’s governorship campaign council.
The SDP governorship candidate in the state, Mohammed Ndarani Mohammed (SAN), announced Vatsa as the spokesperson and Director of Contact and Mobilisation for the 2027 general elections. In an appointment letter personally signed by the governorship candidate and made available to journalists in Minna yesterday, Ndarani stated that the appointment took immediate effect.
Describing the former pioneer publicity secretary of APC in the state as an outspoken and fearless politician, Ndarani expressed confidence that Vatsa’s years of grassroots political experience would add immense value to the SDP’s quest to unseat the ruling APC in 2027.

“Your appointment is a testament to your towering political profile, fearless advocacy, exceptional oratory, media management skills, profound grassroots penetration, and unmatched mobilisation prowess,” Ndarani stated.
He stressed that Vatsa’s dual role was intentional and strategic, noting that as a former information commissioner who understands both media dynamics and grassroots politics, he possesses the voice and network needed to shape public opinion and secure votes.
Under the terms of the appointment, the former Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication to Governor Umaru Bago is expected to articulate the party’s five-point agenda to the electorate and serve as the official voice of the campaign council.
