Three persons were killed in a road accident at Afolu, along Ise-Ekitii in Ise/ Orun Local Government Area of Ekiti State,

The accident which happened on Sunday morning left several others on board critically injured.

The accident involving an 18- seater bus, with occupants who were mostly women were traveling from Ise- Ekiti to Ado Ekiti, the state capital to participate in an annual enrollment service.

The deceased(one female evangelist and two women) and other travellers inside the bus are members of St. Mark’s Anglican Church, Ise-Ekiti.

It was gathered that the fatal accident happened when one of the.tyres of the vehicle burst while in motion and the driver lost control and the bus somersaulted.and the three women died instantly.

It was learnt the female evangelist got wedded few weeks ago and another deceased is the wife of a former local government chairman. The three corpses have been deposited at the morgue.

Others who sustained injuries were rushed to the hospital where they are currently receiving treatment.

The Anglican bishop of Ekiti, Rt. Rev. Andrew Olusola Ajayi in his reaction commiserated with the families of those that lost their lives and St. Mark’s Anglican Church, Ise-Ekiti and prayed that God will heal those injured.

Speaking with newsmen, the Chairman of Ise Local Government, Hon. Bamikole Ayodele, mourned and expressed his heartfelt condolences with the Vicar of the church, Ven. E.T Babalola and the entire members of the church.

Confirming the accident, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander in Ekiti State, Olusola Joseph, said that two persons died instantly, while 10 occupants were injured.

He said that the injured were rushed to hospital.

On the cause of the accident, the sector commander said, “It was tyre burst that was responsible for the accident involving the 18-seater bus.

“We will continue to appeal to motorists to keep to speed limits. They know the nature of the roads, so they should be very careful while driving on the roads.

“At the same time, they should keep to traffic rules and regulations”.
