Former Cameroon international Samuel Eto’o has raised concerns over the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) decision to award the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title to Morocco following a controversial ruling.

Reacting to the development, Eto’o criticised the decision, suggesting it undermines the credibility of the competition on the global stage.

“They have given the world a reason to never take AFCON seriously. Seriously, how will you lose a final and win it two months later?” he said.

The former Barcelona striker also maintained that the original outcome of the tournament should stand, insisting that Senegal national football team were the rightful winners.

“The whole world knows the real winners. Senegal have proof that they won the AFCON,” Eto’o added.

CAF had earlier

ruled in favour of Morocco national football team, awarding them the title following an appeal decision that overturned the initial result of the final.

The ruling has sparked widespread debate across the football community, with stakeholders questioning the implications for the integrity and reputation of African football’s flagship tournament, the Africa Cup of Nations.
