The escaped hyena from the Jos Wildlife Park, Plateau State has been rescued after relentless search operations between Monday and yesterday for the rescue of the animal.
The General Manager, Plateau State Tourism Corporation, Mr Chuwang Pwajok, made the disclosure to newsmen, yesterday, in a statement in Jos, the Plateau State capital. He said the animal has since been found, tranquilised, captured and safely returned to its enclosure, and commended the public for being calm throughout the period of the search operations.
The statement reads in brief: “The management of Plateau State Tourism Corporation would like to inform the general public that after relentless search and rescue efforts, the missing hyena has finally been found, tranquilised, captured and safely returned to its enclosure”.
The GM stressed that the success was through the various interventions put in place by the present administration, to address the total neglect the Park witnessed in the last eight years.

“Actually, the park has suffered some years of neglect, so when this government came on board, a lot of interventions were ongoing in the Park, which has contributed to the success recorded in the rescue of the Hyena. Talks are ongoing for the rehabilitation of the park even before this incident, and very soon, contractors will move in for the rehabilitation of the various enclosures at the park,” he hinted.
Pwajok maintained that the corporation was deeply appreciative of the cooperation the general public gave them by remaining calm within the period of the incident.
“This greatly assisted in the search and rescue of the animal, thank you,” he noted.
In 2015, one of the oldest lions since 1972 was reported to have escaped from its cage after a park attendant went to feed the lion, but was later killed due to absence of tranquiliser.
