Chelsea forward Joao Pedro has been named the EA Sports Premier League Player of the Month for August 2026 after making a strong start to his first full season with the club.
The Brazilian striker finished ahead of Chelsea team-mate Cole Palmer and six other nominees to claim the award following a public vote combined with selections from football experts and Premier League captains.
It is the first time Joao Pedro has won the Premier League Player of the Month award and makes him the first Chelsea player to receive the honour since Palmer won it in September 2024.
Joao Pedro played a key role in Chelsea’s perfect start to the Premier League campaign for the month of August. contributing two goals and two assists in their opening two matches.
He announced himself in Chelsea’s opening match against Fulham, scoring after just 31 seconds before setting up Palmer for the decisive goal as the Blues secured a 3-2 victory.
The Brazilian then scored against former club Brighton & Hove Albion before providing another assist for Palmer in Chelsea’s 4-3 victory. The two performances gave him four direct goal contributions in his first two league matches.
His performances also helped establish Chelsea’s new attacking combination under manager Xabi Alonso, with Joao Pedro, Palmer and Morgan Rogers contributing five goals and four assists between them across the opening two league matches for the month of August.
Palmer was also shortlisted for the award after scoring twice and providing an assist during Chelsea’s opening two league victories.
Joao Pedro’s award gives Chelsea an early individual prize in the 2026/27 Premier League season after the club won two of its opening three league fixtures.
