Manchester United head coach, Michael Carrick admitted his squad did not play well against Newcastle in their 2-1 loss on Wednesday night.

The Red Devils lost at St James Park, despite the hosts being reduced to 10 men after Jacob Ramsey was sent off.

William Osula curled in the winner late in the second half, after Casemiro’s header cancelled out Anthony Gordon’s penalty.

“I don’t think it was the 10 men, we just didn’t play good enough,” Carrick told TNT Sports.

“We can’t make excuses for that. We all take responsibility for that.

“Newcastle deserved to win tonight, it hurts me to say that.

“That is how it was. We need to get back to work and be better for the next game.”
