Thousands of youths in Enugu State on Saturday took to the streets in a show of solidarity for Governor Peter Mbah, declaring their support for his re-election ahead of the 2027 governorship poll.

The rally, tagged a “10,000-man solidarity march,” was organised by the Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Enugu State Chapter, Chukwuebuka Okoh, who said the demonstration was a reflection of widespread youth endorsement of the governor’s performance.

Speaking with journalists during the march, Okoh said Enugu youths were satisfied with the achievements recorded by Mbah in less than three years in office, noting that his administration had delivered visible results across key sectors.

He added that beyond infrastructure and governance reforms, the governor had created opportunities for young people to participate in leadership and decision-making.

According to him, “This is not just a march; it is a clear message from the youths of Enugu State that we have seen leadership that works and we are ready to stand by it.

“In less than three years, Governor Mbah has changed the narrative in governance, infrastructure, education, and youth inclusion. We have been given opportunities to serve, to contribute, and to grow, and we cannot ignore that.

“The youths are not deceived; we know what good governance looks like, and we are experiencing it. That is why we are mobilising ourselves, not out of compulsion but out of conviction, to ensure continuity.”

Okoh said the march was also aimed at mobilising broader support across the state, insisting that “there is no vacancy in the Lion Building come 2027,” given what he described as the governor’s performance.

He further disclosed that Enugu youths were already making moves to procure the governor’s re-election nomination form once his political party releases the timetable for primaries.

Also speaking, the Deputy Chairman of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) in the state and Chairman of Igboeze South Local Government Area, Ugo-Ferdinand Ukwueze, commended the initiative, describing it as a reflection of genuine appreciation from beneficiaries of government policies.

“What we are witnessing today is a demonstration of genuine appreciation from the people, especially the youths, who are direct beneficiaries of the Governor’s policies.

“From infrastructure to human capital development, the impact is visible. This should serve as a reminder to Ndi Enugu that leadership is about results, and Governor Mbah has shown capacity in that regard.

“If the constitution permits, such performance deserves continuity because consistency in governance brings lasting development and stability to the state.”

In their separate remarks, the Special Assistant to the National Chairman of the APC on Youth Mobilisation, Juliet Obinta, alongside other youth leaders including Obetta Chika and Onah Onyebuchi, praised the governor for what they described as his youth-friendly policies and inclusive governance style.

They also urged residents of the state to sustain their support, noting that aligning with the Federal Government would further enhance development.

Responding, Governor Mbah, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Political Matters, Frank Anioma, expressed appreciation for the show of support, saying it reaffirmed the confidence of young people in his administration.

He noted that the turnout underscored the alignment of the youth constituency with the government’s vision for the state.

The solidarity march saw participants move through major streets in Enugu metropolis, chanting slogans in support of the governor and calling for his re-election in 2027.
