The Enugu State Volleyball Association has inaugurated a new 11-member executive committee tasked with reviving and advancing the sport in the state over the next two years.

The inauguration ceremony, which took place at the Conference Hall of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Enugu, saw Kingsley Nwosu officially assume office as Chairman.

Speaking at the event, the Enugu State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Lloyd Ekweremadu, represented by the Director of Coaching, Ephraim Ochonma, described the inauguration as long overdue.

He urged the new leadership to focus on service and commitment rather than personal gain.

“Thank God for today. Despite the challenges, we are here. Since the passing of Kenneth Ndu, volleyball in Enugu State has struggled. This is not a place for sharing money; it’s a call to service. Sports is about passion,” he said.

Ekweremadu also emphasised the need to focus on grassroots development as a means of reviving the sport. “Some sports have gone extinct simply because they failed to nurture younger talents. You are all young and capable. Develop the sport not just at the elite level, but from the grassroots. That is where the future lies,” he added.

In his acceptance speech, Nwosu expressed gratitude to the Commissioner and the Ministry for their trust and support.

“We are inspired and committed to taking volleyball in Enugu State to greater heights. We’ll do everything, financially, spiritually and strategically, to grow the sport. Our goal is to build a formidable team starting from the grassroots level,” Nwosu pledged.

He added: “We pray for life and strength, because I have full confidence in my executive team. I want to sincerely thank the Commissioner and the Ministry for this opportunity. Volleyball in Enugu will return to its former glory.”

The newly inaugurated executive committee members include Urama Olibe C. (vice chairman), Miss Serah Agbo (secretary), Mr. Emenike Victor (member), Sunny Nwosu (member), Colonel D. T. Oye (member), Akinsanya Oyindamola (member), Ekumma Arinze (member), Ihuoma Oguchukwu (member), Ochi Michael (member), and Edemba Helen Nechi, who serves as the head coach.
