The Nkanu Youth Organisation (NYO), the umbrella body representing youths across the six local government areas of Enugu East Senatorial Zone, has announced the impeachment of its President, David Nwachukwu, over allegations of serious misconduct, and the appointment of its Vice President, Gideon Nwafor, as Acting President.
The decision was made public yesterday, during a press conference addressed by members of the organisation’s National Executive Council. NYO draws its membership from Nkanu East, Nkanu West, Isi-Uzo, Enugu East, Enugu South and Enugu North local government areas.
In a statement jointly signed by the Acting President, Nwafor; the National Secretary, Ugwu Chukwuemerie Padrepew; and five other national executives, the youths said the action followed investigations into allegations of financial impropriety and abuse of office levelled against the former president.
The statement noted that the allegations include diversion of organisational funds, the alleged fraudulent collection of N10 million in the name of a non-existent faction of the group, abuse of office, involvement in sponsored attacks on prominent leaders of Nkanu land, and diversion of funds meant for the registration of the organisation with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
“Upon the conclusion of this process, the Council established that the allegations were credible, weighty, and fundamentally incompatible with the standards of leadership expected in NYO,” the statement said.
It added that the findings revealed “acts of financial misappropriation, abuse of office, unauthorised collection of monies in the name of NYO, actions aimed at undermining government institutions, and repeated unilateral decision-making without recourse to the appropriate organs of the organisation.”

“In view of the gravity of these findings and the need to safeguard the integrity, unity and future of the Nkanu Youth Organisation, the National Executive Council, hereby, suspends David Nwachukwu, indefinitely, as National President, with immediate effect,” the statement continued, noting that all privileges and powers previously vested in him had been withdrawn.
To avoid a leadership vacuum, the council announced the appointment of the Vice President, Gideon Nwafor, as Acting National President. He was mandated to stabilise the organisation, lead reconciliation efforts, restore financial discipline and oversee the affairs of the union, pending the emergence of a substantive president, in line with the organisation’s constitution.
The youths also stated that Nwachukwu no longer has the authority to speak or act on behalf of NYO in any capacity.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the National Executive Council, hereby, notifies the general public, government institutions, development partners, and the media that Mr. David Nwachukwu (also known as Dika Dave) no longer represents the Nkanu Youth Organisation in any form, whatsoever,” the statement said.
It warned that any correspondence, public appearance or engagement carried out by him, in the name of Nkanu youths, should be regarded as unauthorised and lacking the mandate of the organisation.
NYO further disclosed that the matter has been referred to relevant authorities for further investigation and possible recovery of allegedly misappropriated funds.
The organisation also tendered an unreserved apology to prominent sons and daughters of Nkanu land who were allegedly targeted through sponsored attacks during the tenure of the former president, stressing that such actions did not reflect the ideals and objectives of the Nkanu Youth Organisation.
