The Igwe-elect of Ogugu Ntu-egbenese ancient kingdom in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State, Chief Aloysius Ogbonna, has praised the Deputy Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, for his significant contributions to national development.

During a courtesy visit on Sunday to the Deputy Speaker at his country home in Agbamuzu, Bende Local Government Area of Abia State, Chief Ogbonna highlighted Kalu’s dedication to the Ndigbo since his tenure began in 2019 and his subsequent elevation to Deputy Speaker in 2023.

Chief Ogbonna commended Kalu for his pivotal role in the establishment of the South East Development Commission, an initiative poised to foster the region’s growth. He also called for Federal Government interventions in Ogugu, particularly in agriculture and road infrastructure.

The monarch-elect lauded Hon. Kalu’s efforts in addressing insecurity in the South East through the Peace in the South East Project (PISE), which employs non-kinetic methods to resolve conflicts. Additionally, he recognized Kalu’s contributions to global humanitarian efforts, notably leading the Sudan Darfur Project in Australia for the United Nations High Commission for Refugees.

“I am here on behalf of my people to commend your outstanding efforts in nation-building, especially in our region,” Chief Ogbonna stated. “You have been a vital voice for our people in the National Assembly, and your work has greatly helped in establishing the South East Development Commission. We hope you will include our community in your programs, particularly in agriculture and infrastructure.”

In response, the Deputy Speaker congratulated Chief Ogbonna on his victory in the traditional rulership election, which ended a 24-year leadership vacuum in Ogugu.

He reiterated his commitment to quality leadership in the National Assembly and urged support for President Ahmed Bolaji Tinubu’s administration, expressing confidence in the President’s ability to elevate the nation.

Hon. Kalu also praised South Easterners for avoiding the planned national protest, noting that the Federal Government is addressing the issues raised.
