Former President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Olumuyiwa Ajibola, has said that the engineering sector could be the panacea to driving the economy out of recession as its potential remains untapped.
Speaking on the theme of the ConstructSkill Conversation entitled, “Unlocking the Potential of Engineering for Economic Growth” in Lagos recently, Ajibola said the engineering sector has remained untapped and urged the government to exploit the potential of Nigerian engineers into its policies in order to energise its expected economic growth.
“The country cannot enjoy any sustainable growth when there are no opportunities for its intellectuals or the millions of graduates being churned out annually from diverse universities into the society even as the sector remains noticeably untapped.
“It’s a shame when you see dams and railways being drawn and conducted without Nigerians being involved in the project. Engineering is power and we must therefore engage our vibrant youths and engineers in these processes instead of seeking foreign interventions,” he said.
