As we hastily run to chest the last date of the year 2024, it is obvious that there is a noticeable cloud that had been covering the entire atmosphere of the country. This situation is very palpable and convincely instructive. Like an athlete, we cannot say we ran through the twelve months of the year 2024 without pains which eventually produced sorrowful tears. Infact, pains and tears had been our immediate neighbour, when sleeping and when going out ,the story is the same despite the soothing and comforting words from our leaders . We always remember how the year started. In tears as terrorists opened fire on innocent villagers in the north while armed gangsters who claimed they want to resurrect the dead soul of Biafra, killed innocent citizens who do not believe in their atrocious act were killed and forced to flee from their villages in tears as soldiers engaged them in a bid to rescue and restore normalcy. It was tears all the way. It left no one alone. Sorrow, pains and tears became the daily meal of many Nigerians. Those who could not bear the pains looked for better ways to check out of the country for greener pasture. This act of fleeing from the country for better life is what is known as the “Japa” syndrome. It is like a fever that had affected many people, mostly the youths and elderly.
Back home, the people contend with the encouraging statements from religious leaders, the military and the government that all would be alright. On the part of the military, they comfort the people when they issue press statements narrating how their troops had neutralized hundreds of the terrorists that had been terrorizing the people and would end the statement by promising to do more. We know that these terrorists brought the country to where it is today. They invade farms thereby scaring away farmers and making food products scarce in the markets.
On their own part, religious leaders every fridays and sundays open the Koran and Bible to comfort and console the people, especially those who lost their dear ones and family members not forgetting friends and relatives during terrorist attacks. In some states, terror attack are either daily or weekly occurrence. They are always burying someone either killed by bandits or armed hoodlums, or they step on bomb traps. Even our revered traditional rulers had their seat desecrated. Many were either killed or chased out of their domain while many are daily in pains and uncontrollable tears. It is tears all the way. Tears that are concealed in our hearts. Tears we release in our bedrooms where no one can notice that we are in pains and in tears. Tears we conceal from our children and wives because we can no longer provide them with the required three square meals and even pay their school fees. We shed tears when we park our cars because we can no longer afford the fuel hike in price which resulted to our hiking motorcycle or begging for a car lift. Shedding tears is not normal.
According to Elizabeth Bourgeret, an American author says “ Tears are words that cannot be spoken , the pain that cannot be explained , allow them to flow and bring healing to the soul.” Something unbearable made the crayfish bend. Tears is not only for the poor, even the rich also shed tears. Except that while the poor weep , the rich only sob quietly. A time was, when Nigerians were classified as the most happiest people. Today, the story has changed. The government had changed hands but not in terms of party manifesto. The party like a colossus, now bestride the narrow world. They inflict pains like the long mouth rat which destroys the skin while bitting and blowing breeze on the damaged skin, just to avoid being noticed. While the people are bearing the pains of insecurity, pains of economic hardship , the government continues to blow cool breeze on their temperament reminding the people of their Renewed Hope Agenda. Today. the truism in the prophecy of one of the end time prophets, Prophet Prince James Kunle Hezibah who had predicted before the presidential election, that “Bola Ahmed Tinubu would be sworn in as the president, but unfortunately, his administration would serve Nigerians bitter leaf and bitter kola policies”.
In order words, there would be suffering and pains all across the country as it is being experienced presently. Prophet Hezibah understands the situation in the country. He feels the pains and sufferings of the masses. What did he do? Or what has he done to ameliorate the pains and sufferings of the people? Reports says, his church, God’s glorious lnternational ministries, based in Jikwoyi, Abuja has been serving over three thousand people with both cooked and raw food including transport fare and hospital bills. These humanitarian assistance, notwithstanding , the suffering in the land and the tears are on the increase as more companies and private institutions struggle to pay salaries. This has further exercibated the situation leaving workers to shed tears in their closets. The question on every lips, is, who will save the people from these end time suffering. No food, no money, no security, no peace, no happiness except pains, suffering , sorrows and Tears are on the increase. Who will wipe away our tears as we step into the new year 2025.
Security File wishes all our readers a hopeful new year The second coming of IGP Egbetokun (2)
His first appointment on the 19 th of June, 2023, as the 21st indigenous Nigerian lnspector General of police, which eventually culminated into his first outing as the lGP, was generally adjudged as not being very impressive, while many others see it as another official jamboree and an opportunity created for a Loyalist to hold a position. However, it is now clear that the man Kayode Egbetokun, who was reappointed on the 6th of September, 2024, must have learnt many lessons by correctly dotting the earlier missing ‘i s’ and correctly crossing the ‘ts’. He is like the man who had prepared for a long journey only to set out on the long journey and remembered that he would need his cutlass to arm and guard himself against any dangerous animals.
So, after embarking on the journey, he suddenly remembered that he needed his cutlass. Indeed, his understanding of the importance of the journey has suddenly dawned on him. The question is, could it be that the president who earlier appointed saw some good qualities in him, that was why he returned him to complete the assignment the second time because the allotted time was not enough. Could this be the reason for the second chance? Second chance is preparatory time to improve on whatever mistakes that had earlier happened.
Second chance is trying time. It is a time of reckoning. A time when every second counts. A time when every eyes are focused on you. These eyes are focused on you monitoring every step you take and carefully read meanings to every statements and actions. It is a time of extreme carefulness.A time when even your colleagues who were eyeing the number one seat would be exhibiting their grievances in many ways, it is a time to make amends. It is a time to seriously check the excesses of the numerous task forces setup, with other security squads set up for various operational agenda. It is time to set up a high powered team to address every official complains emanating from policing administrative system. It is a time to revisit the errors of the past like non compensation to every victim of the force headquaters terrorist attack on Thursday 16th June 2011
It is not a time to show off neither is it time to suppress others ethnically or religiously. It is a time to right every wrong in the system administratively and operationally. It is a time to be careful of banana peels from either within or outside the force. It is not a time to be unmindful by exhibiting nonchalance. Indeed, it is a time to carry every police men and women along the path of reconciliation. What of renewing the old tradition of end of year get together, where the old and new, the retired and the serving officers gather together as a reunion to rob minds together. Afterall it is said that iron sharpens iron. Impressively, the tide has changed and operational security records and Nigerians are applauding the activities of the police at every level. Of note is the police commissioner for FCT Mr Tunde Disu who recently urged Abuja residence to enjoy there Christmas without any fear. The result of this dint of hard work are pointer to a leader who has realized his mistakes and errors with a determination to leave behind a reference based legacy.( To be continued).Ekpetokun, from all statistical indications has impressed Nigerians with his recent administrative and operational activities in the police which are becoming loudable and noticeable in virtually every state of the federation including the federal capital territory , where the fct minister was so impressed with the operational activities new commissioner of police Mr Tunde Disu that he donated 50 operational vehicles to security agencies urging them to go after criminals operating around the federal capital territory. Such gesture was once extended to the police in Lagos state when President Bola Tinubu was the governor of Lagos state and Sir Mike Okiro was the commissioner of police . Sequel to this donation many criminals were apprehended in Lagos state and criminals rate reduced drastically .this unfolding gesture makes one to be hopeful in the year 2025 should every concerned state governor extend operational gesture To police commands under their jurisdiction , the. We are good to reduce crime in every state of the federation.(End)
