Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD), a non- governmental- organization, has condemned the killings of protesters by security agencies during the ongoing #Endbadgovernance protests.
Executive Director of the organization, Yunisa .Z. Yau expressed deep sadness over the aviodable loss of innocent lives in addition to the use of force against citizens exercising their fundamental rights as provided by the 1999 Constitution (As amended) and the various international agreements to which Nigeria is a signatory.
He lamented that, “As of 4th August 2024, reports indicate that at least six protesters were shot dead in Niger, seven in Kano, four in Borno, and two in Kaduna, with additional fatalities and injuries reported in other regions”.
He charged the security agencies to halt the use of force against the protesters and prayed the Federal Government to conduct thorough investigations into the tragic incidents and hold those responsible accountable.
He reasoned that the use of force on the protesters at this critical point would only fuel the situation urging government to rather respond to key demands by its citizens.
He criticized the president’s address, saying that the speech said nothing about the demands of the protesters and the expectations of Nigerians.
