Over the last few years, the entertainment sub-sector of the country has evolved in the different forms and shades of how beauty pageants are persevered. With a number of emerging trends, the idea of beauty and how it should be expressed has slightly changed to fit into the narrative of the type of pageantry involved.
Pageantry is supposed to enhance the fashion world, idolize young beauties by giving them a platform to showcase their talents and make them agents of change and recognise humanitarians but sadly, in Nigeria, it is mostly different. The will to change the narrative of beauty pageantry is what drove Emmanuel Anabueze to establish the “Queen of South East Nigeria Beauty Pageant,”.
Queen of South East Nigeria Pageant has been recorded to be unique and different from other beauty pageantry shows around the country especially with the South East Region. Queen of South East Nigeria Pageant is a pageant that covers the 5 states in the south east region of Nigeria which includes Enugu, Anambra, Abia, Ebonyi and Imo State respectively. This pageant came into existence with the goal of upholding thresholds of peace and fairness, while ensuring national unity by trying as much as possible to avoid every element of discrimination amongst every citizen from this regions.
The director of the Queen of South East Nigeria Pageant Mr Anabueze had seen the need for the South Eastern Nigeria to have a common purpose that would unite especially the younger generation and he chose to use Pageantry as a way of promoting culture, beauty and talent in the South East Nigeria.
He said that through the Queen of South East Nigeria Beauty Pageantry Show, he aimed to revive the cultural legacy and togetherness majorly in the South East Part of the Nigeria. This is evident in the results of the past editions of the Queen of South East Nigeria Pageant.
“We must be able to sustain our rich cultural heritage and values as much as we can and the Queen of South East Nigeria has provided us with an opportunity to change the lives of young, promising girls who are bounded by the same goal to create and impact positively in lives of people through different humanitarian activities and also embarking of skills acquisition programs to equip the next generation.” Said Emmanuel.
During the pageant, a number of mouth watering rewards and star prizes have been given to winners. The opportunity to travel out of the South East region also remains as one of the most incredible rewards given to the lucky winners of each edition of the Pageantry.
One thing that sets the Queen of South East Nigeria aside from other beauty pageant shows in the Region is the transparency with which winners are selected. Since the inception of this show, there has never been any situation of gross misconduct on the parts of the judges or results manipulation.
One of the major ways that Emanuel Anabueze, Director of Queen of South East Nigeria beauty pageant, has redefined the pillars of beauty pageant in the South East Nigeria is by creating a show that was strictly for the Igbos and went ahead to draw out young women who share a common tongue, culture and history.
Through the Pageant, Mr Anabueze, is able to project the fullness of Nigeria’s history and also allow the contesting ladies to go through series of stages that helped to sharpen them into exemplary role models as well as giving them a chance to showcase their talents.
“With the help of this pageantry, the possibility and hope to draw the younger generation’s attention to the significance of their language and culture would be highly merited among the South Easterners.” Emmanuel Stated.
He went on to reaffirm that, “It would take an immediate viewpoint and solution to redefining the true tenets of beauty pageants in the South East. This mostly includes the attire, traditional Display and other things that expressed our cultural identity, which had become unfamiliar to many young Nigerians.”
Another key way that Emmanuel Anabueze has contributed to redefining Beauty Pageant in the South Eastern part of Nigeria is how it laid a great deal of emphasis in one’s proficiency in the knowledge of Igbo attire and other cultural and traditions Heritage of the Igbo Tribe.
In conclusion, Emmanuel Anabueze, director of the Queen of South East Pageant, has done a remarkable job in redefining beauty pageantry in South East Nigeria through his conscious efforts to promote the cultural values and how he manages this pageant with high moral values such as discipline, honesty, unity and of course, kindness.
The Queen of South East Nigeria has, indeed, earned its title as one of the best Pageantry show in the South East Region.
