As the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Dr. Emeka Agbasi has brought professionalism, innovation, and efficiency to one of the nation’s most critical agencies.
He has proven his worth as an accomplished engineer, visionary administrator, and reform-driven public servant whose leadership has redefined road maintenance and infrastructure management in Nigeria. With Master’s degrees in Civil Engineering and Materials & Construction from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Emeka Agbasi proceeded to Imperial College London, where he earned an MSc and the prestigious Diploma of Imperial College in Concrete Structures.
He later obtained a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of London, and other academic qualifications that prepared him for the responsibility he is currently saddled with.
Dr. Emeka Agbasi has had an interesting career journey that spans academia, public service, and international engineering practice, having started as a lecturer at the University of Nigeria before moving to the United Kingdom, where he served as Senior Structures Advisor and Project Sponsor at the UK Highways Agency, and other major engineering firms.
Upon his return to Nigeria, he joined the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) and rose through the ranks to become Director of Public Private Partnership and Multilateral Relations before his appointment as Managing Director/CEO in 2023.
Under his stewardship, FERMA has become more proactive and performance-driven, achieving the rehabilitation of thousands of kilometers of roads and creating jobs across the country.
His emphasis on preventive maintenance, transparency, and data-driven planning has repositioned the agency as a model of effective public service.
For his blend of technical brilliance, visionary leadership, and patriotic service, The Sun Board of Editors chose Dr. Emeka Agbasi as winner of The Sun Public Service Award for 2025.
