The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Abuja, on Thursday, November 27, halted the testimony of three proposed prosecution witnesses in the ongoing trial of former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, pending a decision from the Court of Appeal.

Emefiele faces a 20-count amended charge brought by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (OAGF), including allegations of abuse of office, criminal breach of trust, corruption, and fraud.

During Thursday’s session, prosecuting counsel Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN) sought to call three subpoenaed witnesses.

However, Justice Hamza Muazu ruled that the witnesses could not be admitted until the appellate court decides the prosecution’s appeal on their eligibility.

The judge noted the witnesses’ names were previously listed in additional proof of evidence that his court struck out on March 20—a decision currently contested at the Court of Appeal.

According to him, “The ruling of March 20 is now the subject of an appeal.

“This court cannot change its own decision by allowing these subpoenaed witnesses to testify.

“The prosecution must wait for the decision of the Court of Appeal.”

The case was adjourned to January 29, 2026, for continuation of hearing.
