Communications Strategist and author, Ogochukwu Eloike, is set to host her first-ever book reading event for her groundbreaking self-help book, Ichabod: Daughters Who Did Not Inherit Their Mother’s Silence. The event, themed “Unsilenced Daughters and Sons,” will take place on Saturday, May 17, 2025, in Lagos.
Eloike, an expert in Behavioural Change Communications and Public Relations, is using her platform to ignite vital conversations around gender disparity, particularly the limitations placed on women’s freedom of choice in both societal and economic contexts.
The event aims to bring together 40–50 participants from various sectors, including media, to engage in discussions that go beyond rhetoric and drive meaningful change.
Speaking about the importance of women’s right to self-determination, Eloike cited sobering statistics from UN Women: “Globally, over 2.7 billion women are legally restricted from having the same choice of jobs as men.
“The gender gap in labour force participation has hovered at 30 per cent since 1990, with men’s participation at around 80 per cent and women’s at 50 per cent. These restrictions limit access to finance, creativity, and application of knowledge; a dangerous trend that intellectually malnourishes the world.”
The event will offer a mix of powerful readings from Ichabod, a platform for open dialogue, and light entertainment. It is tailored for individuals; both women and men; who recognize the critical role of women in national and global development and are ready to confront the barriers to gender equality.
