In a momentous milestone that will be remembered in the history of Eleme Kingdom, the longstanding divisions and factionalism that have persisted for more than 55 years have finally been laid to rest. On Saturday, August 16, 2025, the kingdom celebrated a grand unification ceremony at the palace of His Majesty, King Philip Obele, the Oneh Eh Eleme XI, bringing together all traditional clan heads, elders, women, and youths under a single, united leadership.
The event was graced by notable figures, including the second-in-command of the kingdom, His Royal Highness, King Dr. Appolus Chu, OFR, the Oneh Eh Nchia X of Eleme, who attended to witness this historic occasion. In a poignant and symbolic act, King Obele led prayers and traditional rites, symbolizing the dawn of a new era characterized by peace, unity, and shared purpose among the Eleme people.
This historic unification signifies the end of decades-long divisions that originated after the civil war of 1970, ushering in renewed hope for development, harmony, and collective progress within the kingdom. King Obele expressed his optimism, emphasizing that this peace accord marks a decisive step towards reconciliation and unity among the people.
Dr. Appolus Chu expressed his joy and pride over the unification, saying, “This is a historic day for our kingdom. For over five decades, we have been divided, but today, we stand united. I am thrilled to be part of this moment, and I promise that we will work together to build a brighter future for our kingdom.” His words resonated deeply with the gathered crowd, symbolizing a collective aspiration for peace and progress.
For the first time in history, King Obele addressed the entire Eleme community in a single gathering, making the event a truly joyful and memorable moment. It stood as a powerful testament to the strength of unity and the unwavering determination of the Eleme people to forge ahead together.
