The Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Nnewi, Rt Rev. Ndubisi Obi, has called on the Nigerian electorate to vote the person that captures the hope and prosperity of the country.
The bishop gave the charge yesterday in his presidential address during the 3rd Session of the 9th Synod of the Diocese of Nnewi, Anglican Communion.
He said: “We find it funny that those who kept our university students at home for months; worsened the security situation of the country; destroyed the economy, and ruthlessly impoverished the masses, still have the boldness to come to campaign, and ask Nigerians to vote for them for what they call continuity?
“This is most annoying and very shameful. May the Lord have mercy on all of us. As 2023 draws nearer, it is up to the electorate to vote the person that captures hope and prosperity for them,” he said.
The Synod further regretted that the two major political parties in Nigeria, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC) failed to zone their presidential slots to the South East despite calls for the country to consider the region that has not produced the country’s number one citizen since the onset of the country’s present democratic experience.
“Most Nigerians, especially the Igbo were disappointed and felt further marginalized, and short-changed. This scenario raised many questions begging for answers such as, “Does it mean there are no Igbo qualified to be president of Nigeria? Does it mean that the rest of the country does not trust the Igbo with the presidency of Nigeria? Does the rest of Nigeria really believe that the civil war has ended? When will the Igbo be made to see themselves as integral part of this country?”
