Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, has expressed delight over the peaceful conduct of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) local government primaries in Enugu West Senatorial District held at the weekend.
Ekweremadu, who spoke as he monitored the election in the five councils of the Senatorial district, said that the acceptance of the results by the overwhelming majority of party faithful that participated showed the popularity of the winners.
He, therefore, assured the party faithful that the PDP would emerge victorious at the November 4 council polls.
Te federal lawmaker also advised the winners of the primaries who were now the standard bearers of the party to remember that after the elections, the people’s investment in them as their chosen representatives must be rewarded with dividends that would positively impact on their lives.
He urged the aspirants who lost in the primaries to be patient, saying that the mark of a good politician was to learn to support winners and wait for their own opportunity, which would always come.
His words: “I commend the peaceful atmosphere during the PDP local government primaries in all the local governments we have visited in Enugu West.
“I must add that the general acceptance of the outcome of the primaries by party members clearly shows the popularity of the winners as well as the fact that PDP as a party has entrenched grassroots participation in politics.
“For the winners, I want to advise that when the elections are over, they must remember that they are in office by the grace of God.”
The list of the winners and their local governments include, Nestor Ochin, Udi; Harrison Okeke, Oji; Hon Stanley Okeke, Agwu; Hon Fred Chukwudi Ezinwa and Hon Chukwu Ezikeil, Aninri
He also commended the newly appointed transition committee chairmen in Enugu West Senatorial District for their roles in the conduct of the primaries.
Senator Ekweremadu was accompanied on the tour by the member representing Aninri-Awgu-Oji Federal constituency, Hon Toby Okechukwu; the member representing Udi-Ezeagu federal constituency, Hon Dennis Amadi and other dignitaries.
