Super Eagles Captain, William Troost Ekong and goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali are among the early birds to arrive the team’s camp in Uyo on Monday.
Other players are expected to arrive camp today as Coach Austin Eguavoen and his crew commence their first training in the evening. No less than 20 Super Eagles players will be part of the training session going by the itinerary of the team ahead of AFCON qualifiers against the Mediterranean Knights of Libya.
A source close to Super Eagles camp revealed that Ekong and Nwabali were among the early arrival to camp and hinted that 20 players will be available for the team’s first workout at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium which will host the encounter against the North African side.
“We are hopeful for 20 players by Tuesday evening before the training at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium,” the source said.
The 23 players will continue their quest for an AFCON ticket without ace striker Victor Osimhen and Olisa Ndah.
Meanwhile, head Coach of Libya’s national football team, Nasser Al-Hadiri has declared that getting a draw against Nigeria in their upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier will be a positive result.
The Mediterranean Knights will face the Super Eagles in a matchday 3 encounter at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, on Friday.
Al-Hadiri conceded that getting a win against the three-time African champions will be difficult.
The coach stated that they will fight to get one point from the game.
“We realise that winning against Nigeria is difficult, but we seek to return with a draw that will be positive for us and restore our hope in competing for qualification,” he was quoted by Libya News 24.
The North Africans are bottom of Group D with one point from two games.
The Super Eagles have already opened their camp as players are expected to arrive soon for serious preparations for the encounter.
