The Lagos State Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has had its security tightened ahead of the planned protest against the anti-graft agency.
According to The Nation, operatives of the Lagos State Anti-Crime Outfit – Rapid Response Squad and men of the Department of State Services were among those dispatched to all the routes leading to the EFCC office at Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, Lagos.
It was also revealed that operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) are present at the routes with patrol vans, heavy anti-riot gun trucks and Black Marias.
Friday’s development comes on the heels of EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale saying yesterday that intelligence from some Civil Society Organisations revealed that a former governor and two ministers are masterminds of the protest against the anti-graft agency.
On Wednesday, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) disclosed that 4,000 of its personnel nationwide had been mobilised to track the activities of a group organising the protest.
“A group has been recruiting young Nigerians, including students, through social media to protest against the EFCC’s operational activities, particularly in enforcing cybercrime laws.
“The promoters of the uprising seek to destabilise the country and cut short investigations into their nefarious activities”, Lanre Issa-Onilu, Director General of NOA said in a statement.
