The Commissioner for Education and Knowledge Management, Benue, Dr Frederick Ikyaan, has admonished members of the Benue State University Alumni Association (BSUAA) to work for overall interest of members for the the unity of the association.
Ikyaan gave the advice when the Interim National Executive Council of the association led by its Chairman, Prof. Qrristuberg Amua visited him in his office on Friday in Makurdi, advised them not to allow their personal interest to override the association’s interest.
He said that once personal interest overrides public interest, it would give room for all manner of crisis.
The commissioner urged them to rather work for the unity and for the overall good of the association and their alma mater.
He advised Amua and his team to bring sanity to the association, lamenting that it had been bastardized for too long.
“I urge you to offer useful solutions to the lingering crisis to bring it to an end.
“You have inherited a problem and must work very hard to address it without apportioning blames.
“Even if you would not achieve any other thing other than bringing enduring peace and sanity to the association, you would write your names in gold,” Ikyaan said.
He pledged to partner with the association to build a solid university for the overall good of the Benue society.
Earlier, Chairman of the association, Prof. Qrristuberg Amua, informed the commissioner that they came to felicitate with him as an Alumnus of the Benue State University, Makurdi and to appreciate Gov. Hyacinth Alia for appointing him as a member of his cabinet.
The chairman, pledged to partner with the ministry in a more responsive and progressive way assuring that with him on the saddle the ministry would enjoy a seamless partnership of the association, adding that it would also advance government ideals.
He further pledged to harmonize all the factional groups and conduct credible elections in line with the mandate of the interim executive council.
