EDOHERMA moves to enforce monthly health data reporting across public, private healthcare facilities

The Edo State Healthcare Regulation and Monitoring Agency (EDOHERMA) has intensified efforts to strengthen health data management, accountability and regulatory compliance across public and private healthcare facilities in the state.

The Chief Executive Officer of EDOHERMA, Dr Adesuwa Urhoghide-Edigin, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to ensuring accurate, timely and consistent health data reporting while participating in the Edo State Nigeria Health System Exemplar Data Validation Meeting, organised by the Edo State Ministry of Health.

The meeting brought together key stakeholders in the health sector to validate available data, identify reporting gaps and improve the quality and reliability of health information for effective planning, policy formulation and evidence-based decision-making.

Speaking after the engagement, Dr Urhoghide-Edigin stressed that all public and private healthcare facilities in Edo State must comply with mandatory monthly health data reporting through approved platforms, including the District Health Information System 2 (DHIS2), the State Public Health Emergency Operations Centre (PHEOC) and other authorised reporting channels.

She noted that eliminating fragmented reporting systems, addressing data gaps and ensuring compliance with established reporting procedures were critical to building a responsive and accountable healthcare system.

According to her, reliable health data remains essential for identifying gaps in service delivery, strengthening disease surveillance, guiding healthcare infrastructure development and ensuring the efficient allocation of resources across the state.

The EDOHERMA boss further disclosed that the agency would intensify regulatory monitoring to ensure healthcare facilities meet their data-reporting obligations, adding that routine data submissions would become an integral component of facility monitoring, assessment and regulatory oversight.

She also emphasised the importance of sustained collaboration among the Ministry of Health, relevant health agencies, data reporting teams and healthcare providers, advocating stronger coordination of existing reporting structures rather than the creation of parallel systems.

Dr Urhoghide-Edigin maintained that Edo State already possesses the institutional structures and reporting platforms needed to improve health data management, but stressed that effective coordination, accountability and collective commitment were necessary to maximise their potential.
