From Tony Osauzo, Benin

Chairman, Peace and Conflict Resolution Committee for Edo State, Chief Eduwu Ekhator, yesterday raised the alarm that a group, Niger Delta Volunteer Force (NDVF) was planning to invade the state ahead of the governorship election to instigate violence.
In a terse statement he issued in Benin yesterday to mark the International Youth Day, Chief Ekhator described the plot as “evil, ungodly and comprehensively unpatriotic”
He commended security agencies and other persons who were able to uncover the plot and appealed to politicians to exercise restraint.
“I want to say that political growth and democratic consolidation are the products of rich ideas and civilized interplay of social forces and not the blood of innocent citizens.
“I also want to charge the youths to see themselves as nucleus and catalyst for national development, and I urge every youth to rise above being used as tool for destruction and destabilisation in the country”, he said.
