Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has indefinitely suspended the Commissioner for Water Resources, Magnus Nkah.

The suspension follows a petition from members of the Ukawu and Ishiagu communities in the state, accusing Nkah of involvement in the looting of materials intended for the reactivation of the communities’ two mega water schemes.

The Ukawu and Ishiagu water schemes, initially constructed by a previous administration, had been in a moribund state until the Nwifuru administration commenced efforts to reactivate them.

The state government procured materials for the rehabilitation, but reports of looting stalled the progress, prompting the governor to take action against the Commissioner.

Nkah has been directed to hand over all government property in his possession to the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, as per the governor’s directive.

Daily Sun learned that some arrests have already been made in connection with the looting of the water schemes. Additionally, a committee has been established to investigate the matter thoroughly.
