The police in Ebonyi State have arrested a middle-aged man for allegedly selling his five-year-old son.

Chukwuma Onwe, a native of Nwezenyi-Igbeagu community in Izzi Local Government Area of the state, reportedly sold the son for N1.5m to Mrs Chinyere Ugochukwu.

Both the seller and the buyer have been arrested by the police. They were arrested at the weekend.

Police spokesman SP Joshua Ukandu, who confirmed the incident, said the baby boy has been recovered from the buyer.

Ukandu said that the father of the child was arrested alongside the buyer on Friday at Azugwu area of Abakaliki Local Government Area of the state.

“Onwe has been arrested and he is currently in our custody,” the PPRO said.

Ukandu said Onwe took the child away from Mrs Philomena Iroko, his wife-to-be, by threat and sold him to the buyer.

“The suspect lied to his wife that he gave the child to his sister for further care.

“The man and the buyer will be arraigned after further investigation,” he said.
