Ebonyi community decries marginalisation

By Zika Bobby

Ishinkwo Autonomous Community in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State has called on Governor Francis Nwifuru to consider it for political appointments and put an end to the marginalisation of the people since the creation of the state.

In a letter to the governor, signed by Innocent Elum, legal adviser, Ishinkwo Autonomous Community in the Diaspora and Cyrill Igwilo, Dike Eji Ejemba 1 of Ebonyi State in Togo,  Founder, Ebonyi State Union in Togo, they said the closest they have ever been to  government was the appointment of Nwabueze Igwe as Ukaba Development Centre Caretaker chairman by the Sam Ominyi Egwu-led administration some years ago.

“Currently, Ishinkwo Autonomous Community has no single person representing it in the entire governance structure of the state, be it at the state, local government or ward level. This is even as Abaomege, our closest neighbour in Onicha East constituency where we belong, after Ukawu, has over eight government appointees.

“We mentioned the figure of government appointees from Abaomege decidedly, because of our special relationship with them as communities in conflict and because of the general  inclination among our Ishinkwo people to feel that the successive governments of the state, including the present one, love Abaomege and hate Ishinkwo. While this may not clearly be the case, you will agree with us, your excellency, that it is only natural to feel the same way under the circumstances.

“We are grateful to you for the profound commitment to bringing Ishinkwo and Abaomege back to lasting peaceful co-existence. Our wish, hope and prayer is that the White Paper Implementation Committee mandated to share the disputed pieces of lands will deliver on its mandate without allowing the weakness of man to detail it.

“Ishinkwo autonomous community is a political orphan who has been praying to God Almighty to send a helper. We take the liberty of seeing your excellency as that helper sent by God from above. It is with this impression that we passionately appeal to you to lend Ishinkwo  your support to enable it produce the next Onicha Local Government chairman, whose position has been micro-zoned to Onicha East constituency by our party, the All Progressives Congress,” they said in the letter.
