Residents of the metropolitan area of Kano State were overwhelmed with shock yesterday following the tragic death of a family of six in an early morning fire incident.

The fire, which sparked off just before dawn, occurred at Link 39, Bawo Road, Nassarawa Quarters, in the state capital.    Neighbours, who spoke to Sunday Sun on the tragedy, said the fire burnt beyond recognition the father of the home, one Mr Isaiah Jonathan, his wife and their three children, including their house help.

It was gathered that the fire may have engulfed the living room first, a situation that denied the victims access to the main door as they battled to escape.   According to a witness, the deceased persons were heard crying for help before the fire finally silenced them. He added that they made spirited efforts to pull down the burglary of the windows but failed.

Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abdullahi Haruna, confirmed the incident, saying men of the Fire Service eventually put off the fire.
