The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the death of a suspected leader of a kidnapping syndicate in Ughelli, Joel Joseph.
Joseph sustained injuries during a gun battle with police officers in Inene and later died in the hospital. An AK-47 rifle loaded with 10 rounds of live ammunition was recovered from him.
Following the incident, police arrested over nine other suspects in Ughelli North. In a separate incident, operatives of the Safe Delta unit deployed to the Head Bridge in Asaba arrested a suspected gun runner, Friday Emmanuel. Emmanuel, a 43-year-old native of Mosogar, was found with 875 rounds of live cartridges concealed in a sack wrapped in clothing.
The police spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, reiterated the command’s commitment to combating crime and creating a safe and secure environment for communities in the state.
