In a thrilling culmination to the Lafia East Unity and Peace Football Tournament held at the Lafia Township Stadium on Sunday, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Dr David Ombugadu, exhibited his commitment to community development and sportsmanship by donating a sum of 200,000 Naira to reward outstanding performances in the tournament.
The final match, which saw Basira Team emerge as the victorious squad, concluded dramatically in a penalty shootout where the second runners-up, Kaura Team, fell short after missing two crucial penalty kicks. The stadium was a vibrant spectacle, resonating with the fervent cheers of devoted fans, lending an electrifying atmosphere to the event.
Dr David Ombugadu’s generous contribution was allocated to recognise the Most Valuable Player, Highest Goal Scorer, Best Fair Play Team, and Best Team Manager, with each category receiving 50,000 naira. His support underscores his commitment to encouraging talent and fostering sportsmanship within the community.
Furthermore, the Mail Lafia Foundation, under whose auspices the tournament was conducted, extended their support by donating 100,000 Naira to the tournament winners, while the second runners-up received 50,000 Naira, emphasising their dedication to promoting grassroots sports and unity within the region.
The event was a celebration of sportsmanship, talent, and community spirit, reaffirming the vital role of sports in fostering unity and camaraderie among the residents of Nasarawa State.
