• Archbishop Chukwuma urges FG to release Kanu to Ohanaeze
From Geoffrey Anyanwu, Enugu
President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, yesterday, urged Igbo not to be dismayed over the situation of the region, saying things would soon turn around for their betterment.
This is as Archbishop of Enugu Province and Bishop Anglican Diocese of Enugu, Most Rev. Emmanuel Chukwuma, called on the President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government to release leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu to Ohanaeze to restore peace in the South East.
Speaking at the Cathedral Church of Good Shepherd, Independent Layout Enugu during a thanksgiving service as part of Igbo Day celebration, Iwuanyanwu who was in church with executives of Ohanaeze and other Igbo leaders said Igbo has the potentials to be great again and his regime was doing everything possible to put them to work.
“I have carried out a study on the potentials of our region and I am very proud. We have everything that can make us great, agricultural potentials, mineral potentials. We are sitting on top of the biggest reservoir of gas, so please don’t be worried; things are going to be better. Things may look bad now but things will be better because I am putting my trust in God.”
Noting that he found out that it was Britain’s Diaspora potentials that made it to answer Great Britain, the Ohanaeze boss said: “We the Igbo have got a lot of Diaspora, we’re establishing Ohanaeze in all the continents. In Europe, headquarters in London, both America and Canada, headquarters in Washington, South American, Carabeans, headquarters in Brazil, Asia headquarters in China, Africa headquarters in South Africa. So very soon Igboland will be a great Igboland, we are doing our best and God will bless all of us.”
He commended governors of the five South East states for their support since he assumed duty and assured that with such support and that of other Igbo leaders including Ndigbo in Diaspora, Igbo would soon regain its greatness again. “On 30th of April, I was sworn-in to be the President General of Ohanaeze and Archbishop Chukwuma was there and when I saw him I was very happy because he is my spiritual father and the venue where I took the oath to lead Igbo is old Government House Enugu. That place is a hallowed ground, I promised to lead the Igbo.
“I want to say that the five state governors for the first time rallied around one person, all of them supported me and all the five state governors are still supporting me. And frankly speaking, Igbo are supporting me everywhere. I’ve been on a tour of Europe, America with my colleagues, I have a NEC working with me, we want to transform Igboland.”
Iwuanyanwu also thanked Governor Peter Mbah, for taking the funding of the Igbo Day celebration off the shoulders of Ohanaeze.
Archbishop Chukwuma, who officiated the service, commended Iwuanyanwu and members of Ohaneze for selecting the church for their thanksgiving.
The bishop, who recalled how he gathered other bishops in the state to pray for Ohaneze during the reign of the former president general, Amb. George Obiozor for unity, said the Igbo leaders passed vote of confidence in Iwuanyanwu and urged South East governors to continue to support him in all his effort in uniting and transforming the region.
He also restated his earlier calls for release of IPOB leader.
“We must make Tinubu obey the rule of law, Nnamdi Kanu must be released. Nnamdi Kanu must be released, they should stop deceiving themselves. We are fighting it, if Nnamdi Kanu is released, you will see peace in the land. let them release Nnamdi Kanu to Ohanaeze Ndigbo, let them release him to you and see what will happen. Thank God we are overcoming sit-at-home on Mondays, Peter Mbah is trying insisting that Mondays must not be wasted, Alaigbo must not be wasted. Please all of you cooperate and let us revive the economy of the South East.”
