The Mayor of Urhoboland, Eshanekpe Israel, a.k.a Akpodoro, has cautioned former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi against inciting Nigerian youths to violence and civil disobedience.
Akpodoro made this statement on the sidelines of a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja, where topical national issues were discussed. He condemned Amaechi’s call for youths to seize power through violent means, emphasizing that such rhetoric is uncalled for.
According to Akpodoro, the current administration under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is working to reposition the country for the betterment of all. He noted that President Tinubu is correcting the wrongs of the previous government, in which Amaechi served.
Akpodoro questioned Amaechi’s motives for advocating civil disobedience against the current administration, especially considering the erosion of confidence during his own tenure.
This development comes as the All Progressives Congress (APC) has also criticized Amaechi’s comments, alleging they were intended to incite Nigerians against the President Tinubu administration.
As a one time minister, he challenged Amaechi to tell Nigerians how he expended the budgets to his ministry under the Buhari administration, stressing that the ministry of transport under him was worse than he met it.
President Tinubu, according to Akpodoro has surpassed the achievements of the Buhari administration by blocking all leakages left open by the administration of President Buhari who he said funded corruption and wrecked the economy thereby institutionalised corruption from which the Amaechi benefited from.
“Nigerian youths under the current administration have seen how better a nation can be positioned for sustainable growth and development in all facets of the National economy including the security of lives and property.
The Tinubu administration has made tremendous progress in infrastructure development, demonstrating capacity and also dismantling insecurity for the betterment of the nation that his predecessor left in tatters.
Ending the regime of subsidy and floating the naira has opened up the nation for aggressive national development,” he said.
Akpodoro called on the National Security Adviser to the President, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the Director General of the Department of State Security, Adeola Ajayi and other security chiefs to go after those bent on plunging the nation into crisis.
He called on the Nigerian youths to disregard calls by election losers, saying they are not enjoying the lures of office and are badly pained. “They want to remain in the corridors of power forever. He was a member of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Speaker, Governor, and recently, a Minister and went on to contest the Presidential primary where he tasted the bitter pills of defeat. While in these offices, Nigeria was the best country on earth and until he was retired into political irrelevance.”
