The La Liga group made up of members of the Dolphin Golf Club situated in Navy Town, Ojo, Lagos has fixed January 28-29th, 2017 to mark their end of year golf tournament.
According to President of the La Liga group, Engr. Francis Olo, the tournament was geared towards promoting ethical golf where competitors play strictly by the rules of the sport to enhance proficiency as well as help amateurs horn their skills in a competitive atmosphere.
Olo also noted that aside the game, the tournament is to foster friendship and unity among the military and their civilian counterparts.
“Golf is one sport that tasks the endurance of every player considering the fact that one covers a total of 18 holes. Aside that, the La Liga as it implies in the football world is one of the most competitive leagues the world over and that is how it is for us here at the La Liga group of the Dolphin Golf Club, Navy Town, Ojo.
“Our goal is promoting competitive golf so that when we go out to play in other places we will be able to compete effectively against others and hold our heads high. We keep strictly to the rules of the game even while playing for pleasure so that it becomes part of us at any given time. Through the La Liga tournament, we also get the amateurs learn the ropes from outstanding players; that way we get to train them effectively on the rudiments which will come in handy when they become professionals.” While thanking the Nigerian Navy for providing the enabling environment for the game of golf, Olo said that the club still needs support in the areas of maintaining the greens and the course generally to retain the high standard it already portrays in the Lagos area.
