In a bid to uplift the lives of underprivileged children and pave the way for a brighter future, The Daniel Ogechi Akujobi Memorial (DOAM) Foundation is set to hold its 13th Annual Charity Golf Tournament, slated for February 24, 2024.
The Foundation’s BoT Chairman, Obinna Chukwu, highlighting the significance of the event stated that this year’s theme, “Sponsor an Indigent but Intelligent Child,” underscores the foundation’s commitment to providing educational scholarship for 50 deserving children, aiming to break the cycle of poverty and hunger through the transformative power of education.
Chukwu added, “The 2024 DOAMF Charity Golf Tournament will provide another platform to showcase the activities and programs implemented, as well as highlighting the Foundation’s sustainable and judicious use of funds it generates. It also provides partnership opportunities to more corporate entities and kind individuals to enhance the positive impact on disadvantaged communities and lives across the regions in our society.”
The Foundation, for over 16 years have embarked on a journey to touch lives in addressing some of the challenges faced by the less privileged, especially children and youths, in underserved and neglected communities across the country.
In response to the Foundation’s call for support, corporate and kind individual partners have joined hands to support its intervention programs in the areas of free healthcare, accident/emergency services, and education to the downtrodden. These programs continue to positively impact a number of marginalized communities, particularly vulnerable children and youths, and improve the quality of their lives.
In addition to the scholarship scheme, the Foundation organized vacation counseling and mentorship programs for its beneficiaries. “These programs have spurred the children to succeed in their academics and beyond. Other complementary programs include inter-school debates and awareness on sexual abuse and the dangers of illicit drug usage. Also, free medical outreaches were held at Mushin, Inyishi, and Amaimo communities in Lagos and Imo States respectively. These were supplemented with donations of food, relief and welfare materials to orphaned and abandoned children, de-worming and vitamin supplements for children within several public primary schools, and other healthy living programs during 2023. Over 90,000 lives were touched during this period,” Chukwu revealed.
These achievements he noted would mot have been possible without the generous support provided to the Foundation by corporate organizations and kind individuals during the annual Charity Golf Tournament. “The Golf Section of Ikoyi Club 1938, in Lagos, has also been very supportive and continues to ally with the Foundation in deploying Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) events.”
The Qualifier for the 13th Edition will be held on February 3, 2024, while the main event will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2024, in Lagos.
