The Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA) has called for urgent and decisive measures to tackle insecurity, poverty and other socio-economic challenges confronting Nigerians.

Chairman of the party, Mr Meme Samuel, made the call in Abuja while announcing Dr Moses Adebisi as the party’s new presidential candidate following a presidential substitution primary election.

Samuel described the exercise as a significant milestone in the history of the party, saying the substitution was conducted in accordance with the party’s constitution and relevant provisions of the law.

He said he voluntarily stepped aside to pave the way for Adebisi’s emergence as the party’s presidential flag bearer, stressing that the decision was taken in the overall interest of the party and the nation.

The chairman pledged his continued support for the new candidate and expressed confidence in Adebisi’s capacity, commitment and ability to advance the objectives of the DLA.

Samuel also called on the Federal Government to urgently strengthen the nation’s security architecture through the provision of modern equipment and the recruitment of additional personnel for security agencies.

While acknowledging the ongoing debate over the establishment of state police, he cautioned that the issue should not distract the Federal Government from its immediate responsibility of protecting the lives and property of Nigerians.
According to him, the worsening security situation has assumed the dimension of a national emergency and requires immediate and sustained intervention.

The DLA chairman further urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intensify efforts to reduce poverty and improve the living conditions of Nigerians, arguing that leadership must be anchored on sacrifice, service and commitment to the welfare of the people.

In his remarks, the newly unveiled presidential candidate, Dr Moses Adebisi, expressed appreciation to the party for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to pursue what he described as rapid transformation of the country.

Adebisi identified improvement in the standard of living, the fight against corruption, promotion of national unity, tackling insecurity and industrialisation as key priorities of his proposed administration.

He also called for a new generation of leaders to assume greater responsibility in the governance of the country, stressing that every Nigerian has a role to play in the socio-economic development of the nation.

The presidential candidate said Nigeria possessed abundant human and natural resources capable of making it one of the world’s leading nations if properly harnessed.

He listed compulsory education and economic empowerment for the country’s large youth population among the priorities he would pursue.
Adebisi said he had studied the development experiences of industrialised nations, including the United States, South Korea and China, with a view to adapting aspects of their models to Nigeria’s peculiar circumstances.

He said his ultimate objective was to ensure that Nigeria’s vast natural resources were effectively harnessed and translated into improved opportunities and better living conditions for all Nigerians.
