Immediate past Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir el-Rufai, has debunked rumours of his defection from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The former minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) said, the rumour only existed in the mind of the peddlers.
A source close to El-Rufai who spoke in confidence told Daily Sun that the Chairman of Liberty Radio and Television, Ramalan Tijjani, was the one who started peddling El-Rufai’s defection in his social media handle.
The rumour making the round claimed that El-Rufai’s planned defection was glaring after receiving his membership card at his polling unit in Sarki Kaduna, in Kaduna North Local Government area of the State.
“This development is bound to send shockwaves throughout the political landscape of Kaduna State”, the rumour stated.
But in a swift reaction on his verified X handle @elrufai, el-Rufai told his supporters to disregard the rumour.
“Please disregard the patent lies and rumours about my political affiliation”, he said.
He also threatened to initiate a court case against those behind the rumour, “I have referred the lead peddlers of the fake news for further action by my lawyers.”
