The Diaspora Mega City Housing Project is poised to generate approximately three million employment opportunities for Nigerians, Managing Director of Federal Housing Authority (FHA), Oyetunde Ojo, has said.
He made this disclosure during a visit by Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) Chairperson, Abike Dabiri-Erewa and her team to the FHA Headquarters in Abuja.
According to both government institutions, the collaboration between NiDCOM and FHA is set to breathe life into the ambitious Project.
Ojo, highlighted NiDCOM’s concerted efforts with key government bodies to compile accurate data and authenticate the residency status of Nigerians abroad.
He said this meticulous process aims to streamline and fortify the mortgage application procedure for diaspora Nigerians.
Ojo stressed that the project’s objective of providing world-class amenities, adding that the extension of this initiative to all states mirrors the desires of many Nigerians overseas seeking to invest in their home regions.
Furthermore, Ojo underscored that FHA’s mortgage bank is poised to facilitate diaspora Nigerians in acquiring quality and cost-effective housing solutions. Notably, he added that progress has been swift, with oversight conducted in 22 states within a month to jumpstart the project.
In response, the NiDCOM Boss expressed the Commission’s proactive engagement with the former FHA leadership to expedite the Diaspora City Project.
She stated that the transformative impact of this initiative, enabling diaspora Nigerians to own premium residences within the country.
Moreover, she highlighted the appointment of 33 State Diaspora Focal Point Officers (SDFPOs) by Governors, serving as vital links between NiDCOM, the diaspora community, and their respective states.
Both agencies are poised to establish a specialized technical team to devise tailored solutions and structural blueprints, facilitating the realization of the Diaspora City Project across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
This collaborative effort signifies a significant stride towards empowering diaspora Nigerians and fostering sustainable development within the nation.
