The Anglican Bishop Dioceses of Okigwe South, Rt. Rev. David Onuoha has called on the Federal government to dialogue with pro-Biafra groups saying that it would enable government to understand why after 47 years of the end of the civil war, the idea and glamour for the State of Biafra seem to be gaining fresh momentum.
The prelate who stated this while delivering his Presidential Address/Charge at the Third Session of the Eighth Synod of the Diocese held at St. Stephens Church, Umuduruegwelle, Ehime Mbano Local Council of Imo State, on Wednesday.
The Bishop said dialogue would be a better approach to addressing the obvious injustice , marginalisation, suffering and hardship the South east geopolitical zone has been perpetually subjected to since after the civil war. While condemning the brutality with which the law enforcement agencies had adopted at demonstrations and activities of the group he maintained that violence was not a solution to the problem, noting that all over the world force has no place in winning ideological wars.
He applauded the judiciary for granting bail to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kalu, after a period of incarceration, stressing that the body has again confirmed it remained the last hope of the common man.
However, the Bishop commended the Federal government on the sustained war against corruption despite obvious challenges and inadequacies noting that the introduction of the Treasury Single Account and the whistles blowing was rubbing off positively on attaining desired goals.
While giving kudos to the federal government for the huge success already achieved against insurgency in the northeast, he expressed worry that no visible effort was being made to disarm those terrorists under the cover of herdsmen describing as intriguing the reluctance of the federal government to deploy its might against these evil men in the Spirit of the war against insurgency.
