The occupants of Ifedapo Market in Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government Area, Lagos State have appealed to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to intervene over their displacement from the market.

The traders have embarked on a peaceful protest over the redevelopment of the market.

Penultimate week, the market, which is under Alayabiagba Modern Market was demolished by the Lagos State Taskforce allegedly due to the dilapidated state of the structures.

The traders added that Ogungbe family who owns a pedestrian bridge, which runs across the creek that is close to the market has been lobbying the local government to be awarded the contact for the redevelopment.

However, this did not go down well with the market occupants, who staged a peaceful protest march to the council secretariat with placards with inscriptions such as: “Chairman, Ayoola, please, help us, the stress is too much”; Ayoola, we need your help; We don’t want Ogungbe to redevelop the market”; “Ifedapo needs your help”; “Ayoola, please, have mercy on Ifedapo Market, “

Mrs. Falilat Bashiru, the Iyaloja of the market reiterated her stand, that they don’t want Ogungbe to redevelop the market because most of them may not have the opportunity of retaining their shops.

“We want the market association led by the Babaloja General, Alh. Lateef Nda to handle the redevelopment of the market. We have trust in him and also believe him because he is God fearing,” Iyaloja said.
