Democracy @ 25: Why Nigerians should be grateful – Sen Ifeanyi Ubah

Senator Ifeanyi Ubah said on Tuesday that the freedom of Nigerians to express themselves on National issues without fear of being intimidated is said one the major reasons they should be grateful for the country’s 25 years of uninterrupted democracy.

Ubah who addressed the press immediately after plenary equally thanked President Tinubu for being a leader hearkens to the yearnings of the citizens.

Ubah, chairman of the Senate Committee on Petroleum (Downstream) highlighted the President’s infrastructural strides around the country using the Federal Capital Territory as an example.

Unlike other neighbouring African countries who have experienced Military coups, the stalwart of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC advised Nigerians to be proud of the country’s Unbridled democracy telling them to be grateful for not experiencing such in the country.

“We have some of them having a Military coup, but we don’t have such in Nigeria so we should be grateful to God for giving us the unity and the resilience for us to express ourselves , discuss our issues and we have a President that listens to the masses , Rome was not built in a day.

Responding to questions on the state of the Nation’s Economy and Politics, the Anambra South had this to say,

“Look at Abuja for example. We have roads that were commissioned about 15 – 16 years ago and they have not been touched. Under one year of this Administration everywhere is moving, everywhere is being rehabilitated and a lot of roads and every sector is touched.

With regards to the Nation’s oil sector , Ubah hinted that the Refineries will in no distant time become fully functional, citing an example of Dangote refineries.

He said; “As the Chairman of the Senate Committee on downstream I am sure that all our refineries are all kicking , we have Aliko Dangote refineries that have come on board. “The innovations that are coming into the industry and the support that the President is giving to the industries and everything so we are coming up.

“It’s a gradual process but we are getting it right , we are having good tidings.

When asked about the recent bickering in the 10th Senate with regards to resentment on Committees given to Senators , suspension of Senator Ningi among others, the Lawmaker waved off the insinuations saying that the 10th Senate are united.

His words ; “We are one very strong united family and there is no crack in the Senate, the parties might defer but we are one. Kudos to the management and leadership of the 10th Senate.

“As it stands no senator is suspended , issues come in every family no doubt about it. The good thing is your ability to manage and settle. That’s the most important thing when you take Kudos.

Ubah also held that his decision to dump the Young Progressives Party (YPP) for the APC was the right step.

Ubah expressed; ” I am confident that I took the right decision, if I didn’t take the right decision you’ll be hearing my names everywhere coming from the Young Shall grow progressives to the All Progressives.

Being a member of the Constitution Amendment committee , Ubah stated the issues of electoral deficiencies will be tackled.

“Rome wasn’t built in a day. We are taking everything gradually, Ubah reiterated.
