The senator representing Delta north senatorial district, Ned Nwoko, has called for unity among traditional rulers in the district, disclosing that he has put measures in place to reconcile the two factions of traditional rulers within the zone.
The Delta north traditional rulers’ forum had split into two in the build up to the last general elections with the Asagba of Asaba, Obi (Prof.) Chike Edozien leading one faction while the Obi of Owa, Dr. Emmanuel Efeizomor led the other faction.
But addressing the royal fathers at the palace of the Obi of Owa in Ika North-East Local Government Area of the state, Nwoko said he was worried by the factional leadership crisis.
The senator said he has met with the state deupty governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, to set up a peace deal and bring the forum of traditional rulers in Delta north under one umbrella.
“I like unity. Our royal fathers are too dear to me and I have been uncomfortable with the issue among our fathers. I will be happy that during my time, that the royal fathers, they are so important for me, are one.
“I have met with the deputy governor, and we have agreed that he should invite the vice chairmen and secretaries of both factions to a meeting. I will like to be part of that meeting so that we can collectively lay the issues to rest,” he said.
Nwoko had briefed the traditional rulers of his plans for the senatorial district, even as he thanked them for their prayers and support during the elections.
Responding to the senator on the issue of factional crisis, the Obi of Ubulu-Unor, Obi Kikachukwu, thanked Nwoko for his concern, disclosing that steps were already being taken to address the issue.
“Our most distinguished, its like you are a soothsayer somehow because before you came, we were about to give account of our peace moves.
“We went to the Asagba, the delegation was led by me, and we have actually done a lot in that direction. In no distant time, everything will fall in place,” the monarch assured.
Earlier, the Obi of Owa, Dr. Efeizomor who spoke on bahelf of the monarchs, assured Nwoko of support to enable him succeed at the National Assembly.
Efeizomor however charged the senator to uregntly address the needs of the people, urging him specifically to call representatives of oil companies to order.
“The oil companies do horrible damage, they set communities at war, drill oil, they are milking the cash cow dry. It is only when you call the representatives of the companies to order that they know the harm they are doing,” Efeizomor said.
