From Paul Osuyi, Asaba
Delta State Government has commended media organisations in the country for providing platforms through which people are informed about the achievements of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
Commissioner for Information, Mr. Patrick Ukah, gave the commendation when he led officials of his ministry on a visit to the corporate headquarters of The Sun in Lagos.
The visit, according to a statement made available to newsmen in Asaba, yesterday, was to appreciate the media house and seek further partnership and cooperation in the area of dissemination of information about the policies and programmes of the state government.
Ukah said the visit gave him the opportunity not only to know the operational bases of media establishments, but to put a face to operators of the media outfits in order to improve on existing relationship.
He added that the state government does not want anybody to misinform the public about its activities but to report infrastructure developments being carried out by the governor, despite the low revenue occasioned by the current recession in the country.
The commissioner also disclosed that the governor will, tomorrow, begin a Town Hall meeting in all local government areas of the state, to present his score card to the people, feel their pulse and know other areas of their needs.
Managing Director/Editor-In-Chief of The Sun, Mr. Eric Osagie, expressed the appreciation of the organisation to the state government for realising that newspapers, which are always in hard copies, are still the best even with the proliferation of radio and television stations and the advent of social media.
Supported by the General Manager (Marketing and Corporate Services), Lady Neta Nwosu, Editor (Sunday Sun), Mr. Abdulfatah Oladeinde and Editor (Saturday Sun), Mr. Femi Babafemi, Osagie said Delta state government “has a high brand that is marketable because professionals who are doing well are occupying professional positions in the government.”
