From Tony Osauzo, Benin
Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, has tasked Edo sons and daughters to unite and defend Benin customs and tradition.
The Oba, who gave the charge during the 7th coronation anniversary thanksgiving at the Holy Aruosa Cathedral (Edo National Church of God) on Sunday in Benin, also prayed God and his ancestors to grant him wisdom to lead the people; look after their welfare, build resilience and to remain focus in his duties.
“Our unity is strength. United we stand. We should not undermine our customs and tradition. We should all hold it together. The world is already jealous of us,” the monarch said.
Edo State House of Assembly Speaker, Blessing Agbebaku, in a goodwill message at the event, expressed his solidarity in a rendition and lauded the Oba for being the rallying point of African tradition, and prayed for his peaceful reign on the throne of his forebears.
In his sermon, the presiding Priest of Holy Aruosa Cathedral (Edo National Church of God), Ohen-Osa Igbinoghodua Edebiri, urged Nigerians to be patient and live in righteousness by obeying the commandments of God, noting that wisdom is profitable to direct.
The church choristers, with a symphony of both ancient and contemporary music instruments, entertained guests and worshippers at the service where crowds flocked to witness the historic event.
