Damboa attack: Gov. Zulum lauds military for gallant defeat of insurgents

Borno State governor, Babagana Zulum has hailled the success of the military forces against Boko Haram during a dawn attack on a volatile town in the southern part of the state last Wednesday.
 
Zulum in his first reaction to troops offensive against Boko Haram at Damboa during an attack to overrun a military base and town in the early hours of Wednesday, deacribed the military success as a deadly blow against the insurgents.
 
“I find it compelling to salute our gallant soldiers of the Nigerian Army and Air Force, under operation Lafiya Dole for a decisive blow against Boko Haram insurgents on Wednesday morning in Damboa town,” Zulum said in a statement relesed through his media aide, Isa Gusau on Thursday.
He said the insurgents attacked thr town from different directions at about 6am last Wednesday with strong believe their ambush strategy would work. The insurgents however met “a far more determined and battle ready military,” the governor said.
He commended soldiers of the army for putting up a strong fight from the ground, lauded the Air force men for their aerial assault on the terrorists Civilian JTF as well as Vigilantes for their complementry role.
He said he was particularly impressed by their gallantry and fighting spirit, adding that the troops successes manifested in the casualties recorded by Boko Haram.
The governor disclosed that 19 fighting vehicles belonging to Boko Haram were destroyed while scores of them were killed by military troops in the offensive.
“I salute our volunteers who supported the military. I salute two volunteers, one each of the Civilian JTF and Vigilantes who paid the supreme price in trying to defend Borno and Nigeria,” he said. He commiserated with the families of CJTF, vigilante and two women killed in the attack.
Damboa, a volatile community some 87 kilometres south of Maiduguri, Borno’s caputal is situated at the fringes of Sambisa, Boko Haram main operational base.
